In a conversation about scholarships Mr. Kermode it did very well on helping me reach a new perspective about how I would like my future to be laid out. She was very encouraging and positive, I now understand more about how both volunteer work and community service doesn't only give you the great feeling of helping others but also can show the people around you (potentially future college/university deans) about how you have gone out of your way and put effort into helping others and the things you love. There are also many clubs provided at our school that many people maybe were not aware we had and that was a good thing to be informed about. Overall she defiantly gave a good presentation and got me thinking more into how i can help out the places around me that could interfere with my career path.

In this speakers presentation it got me thinking much more about future schooling. It brought me into a deeper realization that planning starts now. Though sometimes we cant yet complete specific tasks needed but I'm now seeing more on why its best to start looking for schools. I can defiantly see myself going to KPU in the future for a degree in science. I enjoyed how he made us do a simple worksheet that we need to pay attention to complete and that kept us on task and focused more.I also enjoyed how he handed out prizes to encourage people to really read through the booklet and finish their work. One main concept he got me to understand was that you won't always go with the path you planned. Sometimes you could be finishing your schooling for a counselor and then become a physiologist instead. Sometimes plans can change so dramatically you study biology and then open a bakery. New opertunitues are always around you. There are many courses you can take and being able to take multiple could only make KPU a greater experience. We recently had a guest speaker named Casey who came from BCFED to talk about safety hazards and training.
Her choice of topic I rated a - 4/4 Though I rated both her visual aids and speaker delivery a -3/4 After hearing this presentation i have a better realization that not all "simple" tasks are as simple as they may seem, they usually have a more complicated concept that can easily be underrated ex- making sure oil is filled to the line when making fries at fast food chain. What I found most interesting about this presentation was how she put into reality that even the "coolest" seeming jobs have less interesting points where you would find yourself bored. Another intresting she had us to do was circle the issues on a photo of a daily day in a work enviroment, though some seemed to be common sense like leaving a hot oven open others seemed to be things you don nessicarly think about when your avoiding safety hazards. She seemed to be very nervous and uncomfortable at the beginning of her presentation. She could've talked more smoothly and had a better plan on what she was going to say and when because she had a habit to hesitate and it seemed she had to think of what was next to say. I also did not like the videos personally though they did show realistic tragedies that could very easily occur and how to stop them they were graphic and over exhadurating. |
